16 February 2010 – Free2move Scientific launched today the Gemia™ with part number FS901-AB0A. The Gemia™ combines a power-efficient RFID reader with built-in directional antenna; a low power Bluetooth™ interface and a built-in battery for 10 hours effective operation into a light, small form-factor unit.
With the Gemia™ RFID reader, Free2move is emphasising robust cable-free operation, ease of use together with attractive pricing.
The ISO 18000-6c (a.k.a. EPC Class 1 Gen 2) has become the fastest deploying RFID standard for asset identification, supply chain and inventory management. The Gemia™ is positioned as the ideal reader for many applications which benefit from cable-free operation. The RFID reading range and antenna characteristics are designed for precise selection of tag for supply chain purposes.
Gemia™ can be used with any host supporting Bluetooth™ serial port profile. Its form-factor makes it ideal for desktop, point-of-sale and add-on to handhelds alike. Along with the Gemia™, Free2move offers accessories for fixing it to popular industrial handhelds such as Opticon’s PHL8000 series and the Psion Teklogix Ikôn 7505. By having its own battery, Gemia™ does not drain power from the host handheld. Paired to a computer, it can also be used separately, e.g. as a separate handheld or clipped to a belt. A desktop stand is also available.
Free2move Scientific’s Chief Executive Martin Harnevie says: “Gemia™ can be looked as a powerful combination of Free2move’s strengths in Bluetooth® technology and Free2move Scientific’s strengths in RFID technology. Together it makes a compelling product emphasising robust cable-free operation, ease of use together with attractive pricing.”
